Weekend in Smith

I got back late last night from a fun weekend in Smith.  Heather was nice enough to invite me and my crew (Jeremy, Adrianne, Kristen, and a friend of Kristen's) to stay with her and Fred in Bend.  We got in late Friday night and slept in a bit to give the rocks a chance to warm up.  Unfortunately, it never really did warm up on Saturday and since it was much colder, cloudier, and windier than the forecast we all looked at, no one was properly dressed.  We stuck to easier routes since it was Jeremy's first trip and Kristen's first in a long time.  I led Cinnamon and Sugar (5.6), Bunny Face (5.7), Rabbit Stew (5.7), Lycopodophyta (5.7), and Five Gallon Buckets (5.8).  After that we hurridly packed up and headed to the warmth of the car and then it was off for dinner at the Bend Brewing Co.

Sunday was a beautiful, warm, sunny day.  We didn't get much climbing in, but all enjoyed the sunshine.  Adrianne stopped off with Chris to TR some harder climbs while I put up Lichen It (5.7) and then Chris came over to offer up a Top Rope on a 10b that I didn't catch the name of, but I'll try to find out.  It was a 35 m. climb requiring all 70 meters of his rope to top rope.  Very fun!!  By the time everyone had taken a turn on Lichen it and I was done TRing the 10b, it was time to leave.  So Jeremy and I said goodbye to Adrianne and Kristen, stopped to enjoy some huckleberry ice cream on the way out of town, and then hit the road.  Great weekend, and I can't wait for more climbing!  I think 2009 is going to be a good season!

Hi Julia,

It was great to meet you all. I hope we can get out again. Here's some info on those few climbs you didn't know about:

The 5.10b was "Headless Horseman" and Adrianne warmed up on "Peanut Brittle" 5.8, and "Pop Goes the Nubbin" 5.10a.
